Course: Image Processing and Computer Graphic

Instructor: Dr. Kun-Hung Cheng
Introduction:
This course introduces students to modern digital imaging concepts and practices. There are two main focuses of the course: digital image processing (bitmaps, using Adobe Photoshop) and computer graphics design (vector graphics, using Adobe Illustrator). Rather than being taught from an engineering perspective, the course is designed to emphasise the applications in the lens of humanities.

 

Course: Digital content curation

Instructor: Dr. Hsin-Yi Chao
Introduction:
This course introduces techniques of curating/curation and types of exhibitions. The case studies focus on the digital infrastructures for academic, educational and industrial purposes in Taiwan, including Open Museums, Taiwan Cultural Memory Bank and the digital archiving systems of museums. Based on what they've learned in class, students are guided to curate their own online exhibitions and build their digital exhibition spaces. This will enable students to adapt to the trend of hybrid events in the future of cultural exhibitions.

 

Course: Web Design

Instructor: Dr. Kun-Hung Cheng
Introduction:
This course introduces the core concepts of web design and aims to develop students' basic skills in using web design software with programming languages. The basics of HTML5, CCS, RWD, jQuery and Bootstrap are covered in the curriculum. A website about digital humanities issues is complusory for the final project, as the communication of humanities issues via the internet is one of the essential skills of future liberal arts students.

 

Course: Digital Photography

Instructor: Dr. Hsin-Yi Chao
Introduction:
This course introduces the background knowledge and techniques of photography, combined with practical experience of photo shoots and assignments. Lectures cover the history, schools and theories of photography, as well as the technical aspects of taking photographs. In addition to studying the works of renowned photographers, the course also covers the image archives of museums and the National Centre of Photography & Images. Finally, students are expected to produce their own creative work.
